McCall's 6042 The Perfect Suit

The Pretty, Feminine Suit
The jacket in this pattern is easy to sew and flattering to wear. The French dart curves from the lower front to the bust. There is an option of a band collar. The sleeve has a slit and the bottom and can be folded back for a shorter look. The skirt is easy to fit, with front and back panel seams. You can sew the seams to shape around your derriere, if you have one that should be shown off! The pant is a classic, with a trouser pocket and fly front. Both skirt and pant have a 1" waistband using our non-roll Perfect Waistband interfacing. The guidesheet includes how to fit this suit, with alteration lines printed on the tissue.

McCall's 6028 The Perfect Sheath

The Thin, Thinner, Thinnest Dress

A fitted dress is impossible for me to buy in a store as I am pear shaped. I challenged EVERY boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills to find me a fitted dress. They said, "no problem." Well, I dress to camouflage, so I fooled them. They were bewildered when they couldn't even come close. That is when I decided that I CAN sew one. More than that, I decided I could WEAR one. Just because I can't find it in ready-mades, doesn't mean it isn't for me!

When I made this dress, I let out the lower side seams, but being careful to give myself shape where I have it, which is mainly in the back waist. This dress has many seams so you can tweak them to fit your shape, but also flatter it. AND, you can use color and line to your advantage. View A uses line and View B uses color. Put the darker color on the sides and lighter, brighter in the center.

Yes, any fitted dress is more of a challenge, but hopefully, the alteration lines printed on the tissue will help those of you with a full bust or round or sway back--necessary alterations for this design, if you need them. Casual can be stylish and structured. The jacket has front seams from neckline with welt pockets. Side panel. The collar can be worn up, or open. The back has inverted pleat. Front snap closures. 2-piece sleeves. The tapered skirt has a wide yoke. The pants have a narrow waistband and mock fly front.

McCall's 5974 The Perfect Knit Dress

MISSES & WOMEN'S DRESSES Isn't it fun to see the same pattern on a slim and a fuller figure on the same envelope! These dresses have bodice variations with front pleats, neckline variations, self-faced midriff, pleated skirt front, back zipper and sleeves in three lengths. If you are small busted, you might be able to skip the zipper and pull the dress over your head. Try this when pin-fitting the fabric.

McCall's 5941 The Perfect Pant Suit

MISSES UNLINED JACKET IN THREE LENGTHS AND PANTS
This unlined jacket/vest in three lengths has kimono sleeves with an underarm slit, standup collar, and snap closure. The pants have two leg widths and have self-faced yoke and fly front zipper. The upper edge of yoke is at waistline. The jacket/vest can be worn with a sweater for winter or with a camisole in the summer. My favorite winter time fabric for this vest is wool coating. It is very fast, requires no interfacing as the coating has lots of body.

MISSES & WOMEN'S JEANS
After trying on many ready-made jeans, I found the boot-legged shape of the leg in View B to be the most flattering. It is tighter in the thigh area and flares slightly below the knee. View A is a straight leg style. Both come up to the waistline, but you can make them ride lower or higher by using the fit help in the guidesheet and the alteration lines printed on the tissue.

McCall's 5818 The Perfect Wardrobe

MISSES LINED JACKETS, DRESS, AND PANTS The short, semi-fitted jacket has wide lapels, 2-piece collar with stand, ¾ sleeves that have a slit and fold out, and double-welt pockets with flaps. (TIP: Use the no-fail welt pocket technique from Jackets for Real People, but first fuse the pocket raw edges together from the wrong side before beginning.) The dress is lined to the edges and has back and front pleats and darts, back zipper and a slit at the hem. The pants have a fly front (you could change it to a back zipper if you’d prefer), self-faced yoke, and back darts.

McCall's 5767 The Perfect Coat

MISSES' LINED COATS IN THREE LENGTHS, BELT, AND TOTES
This is a FABULOUS coat. It is EASY to sew with its straight lines, stand-up collar with the buttonhole in the seam, and the hidden placket. Sew the buttonholes in a double layer strip of interfaced fabric (use PerfectFuse Sheer.) and stitch it to the facing. Later when you topstitch the placket, your buttonholes will stay put. It is soooo much easier than sewing buttonholes in a wool coating. Make it out of wool, raincoat fabric, or our favorite--Ultrasuede. We have included tips in the guidesheet for Ultrasuede and recommend our book Sewing Ultrasuede Fabric for more details. If you want a roomier coat, trim the tissue to one size larger and tissue-fit to see if that works for you. The Tote that comes with it is a great companion.

McCall's 5752 The Perfect Knit Dress

MISSES' DRESSES Pati feels that a gathered waist detail that is on BOTH the front and back, covers up our fluff in the waist and makes the garment more flattering. Often, the details in the front come with a plain back that reveals everything in soft fabrics. The dress has a wrap front with gathered midriff, A-line skirt and cut-on short sleeve or long sleeves. The pattern is for knits only. Try a rayon, bamboo, or polyester knit.

McCalls 5716 The Perfect Wardrobe Dress and Jacket

MISSES' LINED JACKET & DRESS,, FLOWER, AND PANTS This is a very "Jackie O" look. It has nice shaping, a hidden placket, and the top button under the collar slips through a slit in the seam. When buttoned, the collar softly crushes. The pants are fitted with a back zipper and contour yoke. The dress has a back zipper, slit in front neckline, vertical waist darts and horizontal bust darts. The dress can be shortened to a blouse to wear with the pants.

MISSES' TOPS AND BELT
This back button shell offers a classic plain neckline as well as one with small pleats. It can be made sleeveless or with a half sleeve, elbow-length sleeves gathered into a band, and a balloon sleeve option. It is perfect for under a jacket to dress up a suit. The pleats at the neckline are very new and if you have to do a full-bust adjustment, you can transfer the dart to the pleats.

NOTE: The Fabric Depot in Portland, Or (www.fabricdepot.com) sells "sherpa" which they used for this jacket. It requires no facings or hems and you can cut off one seam allowance and lap it over the other and topstitch. It makes a very warm jacket that has a suede/sherpa look and feel. It is machine washable.

McCall's 4598 8-Hour Blazer

The 8-Hour Blazer is a Palmer/Pletsch tradition. Originally featured in Family Circle Magazine in 1980, it has been updated with fashion trends again and again since then. The jacket has both a notched and shawl collar, and welt or patch pockets with great instructions in the guide sheet, which also includes complete instructions for FITTING, INTERFACING, and SEWING. McCall's 5064 Coat, Dress, Pant and Top

Swing coat with back inverted pleat, raglan sleeves, shawl collar. Dress with vertical and horizontal bust darts. Pants have front pleats, fly front.

McCall's 3740 The Perfect Pants

This Palmer/Pletsch pant pattern includes a plain fitted pant, a flat front pant with a fly and slanted trouser pocket, and a pleated
trouser. For the trouser, there is a stay that goes from the side front into the zipper to help keep the pleats flat. It is done a different way than past Palmer/Pletsch patterns. A piece of fashion fabric is sewn to the lining forming the side inset and stay unit. This way, from the inside of the pant, one only sees lining. It is clean looking and non bulky because both pocket bags are made from lining. However, the lining is caught to the fly extension by hand after the zipper is inserted. If you’d rather do it all by machine, add 1 5/8" to the center front of the stay so it can be caught while inserting the zipper.

We used to think that one pleat direction was more flattering than the other. We now feel what makes them more flattering is that they are stitched down to the fullest part of your tummy. Also, the crease must join the edge of the pleat. If you reverse the pleat direction, the crease will be skewed at the top.
