If you want to learn to teach sewing, learn from the best. Palmer/Pletsch has been a sewing-education company for over 30 years. Students graduating from the teacher training segment go away confident and ready to teach the topic in which they have just trained. They also qualify to apply for certification. (For details see information at right)

Teacher training is either an additional one or two days added onto selected workshops. Each session includes: business tips; how to teach the Palmer/Pletsch System of Sewing; how to use slides and other presentation skills; and ideas for advertising and promoting yourself and your classes. We’ll give you class formats, pricing suggestions, and much more. Content varies with each workshop as not all can be covered in our limited time. Plus, we invite sharing among teachers.

A two-day training is offered with FIT. The day before workshop, the image makeover/photo session is included in teacher training. The second day, after the workshop, will include business discussions, practice fitting others under our guidance and practice teaching using the slides. Two-Day Fit Teacher Training: $395 (includes lunches, professional camera-ready materials, CD of digital slides with script, patterns and fabric to make 45 gingham fitting shells to make your teaching a breeze, and a great professional photo of you to use promoting your classes)

A two-day training is offered with PANT FITTING & SEWING. The first day, before the worksshop, the image makeover/photo session is included in teacher training. The second day, after the workshop, will include practice fitting others under our guidance, and practice teaching using the slides and a projector. Two-Day Pant Teacher Training: $395 (includes lunches, professional camera-ready materials, CD of digital slides with script, and a great professional photo of you to use promoting your classes)

A one-day training is offered with TAILORING. We will focus on using digital slides to teach and on demonstration skills. Use slides to teach large groups and to promote your hands-on classes. Practice fitting jackets, participate in business discussions.  One-Day Tailoring Teacher Training: $195 (includes lunch, professional camera-ready materials, and CD of digital slides with script)

A one-day training is offered with CREATIVE SERGING the day after the workshop on how to teach a super-beginner serger class. Training includes using slides and projector for a variety of classes and for presentations to consumer groups, as well as business discussion. The slides collection and script for Serging is our largest of all the workshops, and may be used as a great motivator to get students into your hands-on classes. One-Day Creative Serging Teacher Training: $195 (includes lunch, professional camera-ready materials, extensive digital slide program on CD with script)

If you are teaching or aspire to teach fashion sewing classes, Teacher Training will help you become more professional. It will pay for itself in your increased income! You will also be able to benefit by using the Palmer/Pletsch name and reputation to help build your classes and network with hundreds of Palmer/Pletsch instructors worldwide. Over 500 teachers have graduated from this program and most have returned to train in more than one topic.

In addition, You’ll receive:

• Camera-ready handouts to duplicate for
  hands-on classes
• Ideas for promoting your classes
• Up to 200 digital slides (on CD) with a script for teaching a variety of classes from a one-hour demo to an eight-week course on the subject in which you have trained. Slides are also great for giving a teaser seminar to large groups in order to sell your smaller hands-on classes. You can pull out short segments on techniques, such as zippers or waistbands. With slides, even an audience as large as 200 can easily see the smallest detail. 
• An opportunity to do hands-on practice fitting on others or giving demos
• The book The Business of Teaching Sewing is included the first time you take a teacher training program. (Bring it to future teacher training and add to your previous notes.)

NOTE: BEGINNING SEWING and BEGINNING QUILTING have Teacher Training built into the workshop. See the Beginning Sewing web page. Those teacher training programs are different from the programs described here.

Once you have successfully completed one workshop and the corresponding teacher training, you may apply to become a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor (C.S.I.). Once certified, you are authorized to promote yourself as a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor and we will promote you nationally as a teacher certified in the Palmer/Pletsch System of Sewing.™ 

The certification fee is $39 annually. You are eligible to apply after completing your first workshop. To remain certified, you will need to earn points (PDUs or Professional Development Units). We will give you a list of the things you can do to earn PDUs, all of which will help you improve your business. This program is designed as a continuing education program so you can constantly better yourself and your skills.

If you are not actively teaching and do not feel you can earn 100 PDU’s per year, but would like to receive the VIP newsletter and be listed on our website, you may apply to be a Palmer/Pletsch Associate Sewing Instructor, (ASI). You will be sent an e-mail notice as to your renewal, but no CSI certificate. You do not need to track PDU’s. Fee is $25 per year.
