Sewing Workshops: Five Schools and Classes Across America – Sew & Fitting Lessons
Hundreds of students from around the world have attended our sewing workshops. Like a sewing vacation, you'll share camaraderie with other sewers from all walks of life from surgeons to CEOs to fabric store owners, homemakers, dressmakers, attorneys, farmers, and teachers while you are taught expert sewing techniques and the tissue-fitting method of pattern fitting.
You will be guided by the qualified Palmer/Pletsch sewing teaching team. We have been teaching sewing and fitting sewing patterns for over 35 years, focusing on quality garments sewn with limited time. We have worked with and influenced major pattern companies, bringing our message to you along with our fashion sewing books and Learn How to Sew DVDs. We want to PERSONALLY share our sewing knowledge with you in these workshops. AND, we learn from you as well, hopefully making us better teachers.

SEWING WORKSHOPS: SEWING WITH SERGERS 2-DAY – Portland, Oregon
February 18 - February 19| $350
Take two days and really learn what your serger can do to improve your fashion and home décor sewing. By understanding the anatomy of your serger and how it works to create stitches, you will leave empowered to make the most of your machine.
On day one you will learn how to thread your machine, how to set up and create all the basic stitches: 3 & 4 thread overlock, 2 or 3-thread flatlock, narrow hem, rolled edges, and more. Tension will be demystified! Make a fabulous tube or infinity scarf with your newfound skills.
Day two will be technique practice: stitching around inside and outside curves and corners, perfect seam finishes, serging circles, securing ends, elastic casing, painless plackets, working with decorative threads and much more. Helen will demo a 100% serger-sewn top. Make a posh pillow top with techniques you learn today.
Throughout the two days we will discuss all the notions that will make your serging life easy and fun, including handy tools, the best threads, stabilizers and needles. You will leave with a notebook of samples and practical notes for future reference.
This is the original fit pattern that was used in Palmer/Pletsch fit workshops to create your “body map.” For those who want to make a "muslin" out of gingham before sewing other garments, this is the perfect pattern.
Straight or boot legged, below waist jeans have side front pockets with inside pocket, front fly zipper, back yoke, back pockets, waistline with button closure, belt carriers and narrow hem. The guidesheet includes fit tips and sewing jeans details. See Marta fit and sew jeans and follow along with her on our DVD Jeans For Real People. An expanded jeans chapter is in our latest book Pants For Real People and includes a sewing order that you'll love.
