Sewing Workshops: Six Schools and Classes Across America – Sew & Fitting Lessons
Check out our sewing lessons in a city close to you by clicking on a location button below:
Hundreds of students from around the world have attended our sewing workshops. Like a sewing vacation, you’ll share camaraderie with other sewers from all walks of life from surgeons to CEOs to fabric store owners, homemakers, dressmakers, attorneys, farmers, and teachers while you are taught expert sewing techniques and the tissue-fitting method of pattern fitting.
You will be guided by the qualified Palmer/Pletsch sewing teaching team. We have been teaching sewing and fitting sewing patterns for over 35 years, focusing on quality garments sewn with limited time. We have worked with and influenced major pattern companies, bringing our message to you along with our fashion sewing books and Learn How to Sew DVDs. We want to PERSONALLY share our sewing knowledge with you in these workshops. AND, we learn from you as well, hopefully making us better teachers.
SEWING WORKSHOPS: PANT FIT AND SEW 4-DAY – Connecticut
October 5 - October 8| $195.00 - $750.00
Learn to fit any style pant and to sew up all those details. The first day we will give you a comprehensive presentation of The Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method. We will show you pant styles from our wardrobe. Then we will take you shopping to show you the easiest to fit pant fabrics that have good fit and sew qualities.
We will measure your hip and determine your size. We will fit you in tissue and then show you how to alter it for your figure. You will then cut it out in fabric. We will demonstrate the invisible zipper and show you how to pin the pants together for fabric-fitting to tweak the fit on both sides of your body. You will sew the pant, learning a non-roll waistband or elastic band, how to finish seams, and a professional hem.
Now you can choose to fit a different style pant such as one with a fly front, trouser pockets, or a no-side seam pant. We will share with you how similar all the pattern companies are, not how different they are. If you have full thighs in one or a dropped derriere, you will have it in the others. This will EMPOWER you to sew any pattern design you choose and make it fit.
We include the latest Palmer/Pletsch pant-fit pattern, McCall’s 6901.
Take pant fit again.
On your first return visit to the pant workshop you can fit and sew for FOUR straight days. You might want to try our latest no-gap vertical welt pocket. We’ve developed great instructions. It adds time, so we don’t recommend it for your first pant workshop. You will also be able to fit and sew jeans which could take up the whole 4-days! If you plan to do that, get Marta Alto’s Jeans for Real People DVD and watch it before coming to the class.
Each time you return to Pant, you’ll build on your fitting and sewing skills, and new challenges in details and/or design will be added. You will love sewing with the experts as they guide you to fitting and sewing beautiful pants. If you teach pant fit, you will see even more body shapes and improve your skill in fitting others. You’ll become a master in pants!

PANT FIT TEACHER TRAINING ONE DAY 10/10/17
Spend the day fitting others in a variety of styles of pants so that you will be confident when you are on your own at home. The Palmer/Pletsch instructor at your location will be there observing, helping, and available to answer questions if you get stuck. You will also receive a download with camera-ready handouts for your classes, slides and a script for teaching Fit, a variety of slide presentations in Power Point which allows you to rearrange slides for any length presentation, class format ideas, sample promotional flyers and marketing materials. You will also be able to order the Palmer/Pletsch McCall’s basic pant fit pattern at a reduced price for use in your classes. Includes lunch, professional camera-ready materials, and download of digital slides with script. The value of the slides alone is over $1,000. The price of the class is $195. NOTE: Teacher Training can only be taken if you are also registered for the 4-day workshop.
DINNER AND A MOVIE
If enough people are interested, we will order in dinner and watch a fashion-related movie. Pamela has several that you will enjoy (a customer favorite is the independent smash, Men Of The Cloth). There is no charge for this; everyone pays for their own dinner.
This is the original fit pattern that was used in Palmer/Pletsch fit workshops to create your “body map.” For those who want to make a "muslin" out of gingham before sewing other garments, this is the perfect pattern.
Straight or boot legged, below waist jeans have side front pockets with inside pocket, front fly zipper, back yoke, back pockets, waistline with button closure, belt carriers and narrow hem. The guidesheet includes fit tips and sewing jeans details. See Marta fit and sew jeans and follow along with her on our DVD Jeans For Real People. An expanded jeans chapter is in our latest book Pants For Real People and includes a sewing order that you'll love.
