Sewing Workshops: Five Schools and Classes Across America – Sew & Fitting Lessons
Hundreds of students from around the world have attended our sewing workshops. Like a sewing vacation, you'll share camaraderie with other sewers from all walks of life from surgeons to CEOs to fabric store owners, homemakers, dressmakers, attorneys, farmers, and teachers while you are taught expert sewing techniques and the tissue-fitting method of pattern fitting.
You will be guided by the qualified Palmer/Pletsch sewing teaching team. We have been teaching sewing and fitting sewing patterns for over 35 years, focusing on quality garments sewn with limited time. We have worked with and influenced major pattern companies, bringing our message to you along with our fashion sewing books and Learn How to Sew DVDs. We want to PERSONALLY share our sewing knowledge with you in these workshops. AND, we learn from you as well, hopefully making us better teachers.

SEWING WORKSHOP: FIT SEWING PATTERNS 4-DAY – Michigan
April 21 - April 24| $195 - $750
Because we do hands-on fitting, we continue to be innovative and fine-tune our skills. We’ve examined and used many approaches to fitting over the years. Today we teach what works the best and easiest for YOU! We do very little measuring because measuring does not tell you all you need to know about the body you are fitting. Learning to tissue-fit patterns is a process. We fit you, then teach you to fit yourself! The first day we will give you a comprehensive presentation of The Palmer/Pletsch tissue-fitting Method. Then we will alter McCall’s #7279, our sheath dress pattern, to fit your body. Once you have fitted this dress, you will know what alterations are necessary in the most fitted garment you would ever sew. We will then take you shopping and show you our favorite fabrics. If you decide not to sew this style, it will become your own personal “body map” reminding you of your alterations.
After that, you will continue tissue-fitting fashion patterns. We encourage starting with McCall’s Palmer/Pletsch patterns first, as they have alteration lines on the tissue and fit tips in the guidesheet. Then venture to whatever designs you want.
Since the tissue replaces making a muslin, you can go confidently right to your fashion fabric. You will cut out some of the altered patterns in fabrics and learn to pin-fit the fabrics and fine-tune the fit to both sides of our body. By the end of the class, you will be EMPOWERED to sew any pattern design and make it fit YOU.
Take fit again.
The study of fit is ongoing. As fashion changes, there are new fit challenges. You will have four full days to tissue-fit and fabric-fit all the new patterns you desire. Bring questions you want answered, and plan to spend time watching others being fit—there is much to learn in that process!
And again, and again...
Continue to refine and MASTER your fitting and sewing skills under our expert guidance. If you teach fit, you will want to watch even more bodies being fitted and more alteration challenges tackled. You will truly achieve your masters in fit!!

FIT TEACHER TRAINING 4/25/17
Spend the day fitting others in a variety of fashions so that you will be confident when you are on your own teaching. Pati Palmer or the Palmer/Pletsch instructor at your location will be there observing, helping, and available to answer questions if you get stuck. You will also receive a download with camera-ready handouts for your classes, slides and a script for teaching Fit, a variety of slide presentations in PowerPoint (which allows you to rearrange slides for any length presentation), class format ideas, sample promotional flyers and marketing materials. You will be able to order the McCall’s Palmer/Pletsch basic fit patterns at a reduced price for use in your classes. Includes lunch, professional camera-ready materials, and download of digital slides with script. The value of the slides alone is over $1,000. The price of the class is $195.
This is the original fit pattern that was used in Palmer/Pletsch fit workshops to create your “body map.” For those who want to make a "muslin" out of gingham before sewing other garments, this is the perfect pattern.
Straight or boot legged, below waist jeans have side front pockets with inside pocket, front fly zipper, back yoke, back pockets, waistline with button closure, belt carriers and narrow hem. The guidesheet includes fit tips and sewing jeans details. See Marta fit and sew jeans and follow along with her on our DVD Jeans For Real People. An expanded jeans chapter is in our latest book Pants For Real People and includes a sewing order that you'll love.
