Hundreds of students from around the world have attended our sewing workshops. Like a sewing vacation, you'll share camaraderie with other sewers from all walks of life from surgeons to CEOs to fabric store owners, homemakers, dressmakers, attorneys, farmers, and teachers while you are taught expert sewing techniques and the tissue-fitting method of pattern fitting.

You will be guided by the qualified Palmer/Pletsch sewing teaching team. We have been teaching sewing and fitting sewing patterns for over 35 years, focusing on quality garments sewn with limited time. We have worked with and influenced major pattern companies, bringing our message to you along with our fashion sewing books and Learn How to Sew DVDs. We want to PERSONALLY share our sewing knowledge with you in these workshops. AND, we learn from you as well, hopefully making us better teachers.

SEWING WORKSHOP: PANTS FIT & SEW 2-DAY – Portland, Oregon

April 1 - April 2

| $350

Workshop Details

When: Start: April 1 -- End: April 2
Instructor: Helen Bartley

Day One
9-6

The first day we will give you a comprehensive presentation of The Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method. Then we will give you a store tour of best fabrics for sewing pants. Measure for size. Fill out a Fit Chart with suggested alterations. Tissue-fit a pant and alter it to fit you. The alterations made on this pant will show how you differ from other commercial patterns.

Day Two
9-6

Cut and pin-fit fabric. Tweak the fit in fabric. There is always some tweaking do in fabric as you are fitting both sides of your body and every fabric fits a bit differently. You will learn to sew a fly front and/or invisible zipper and sew a non-roll waistband and/or a sew-on elastic waistband.

Included: A Palmer/Pletsch pant pattern, lunch, and 17 hours of instruction.

There are also fabrics, interfacings, and notions available for sale at the store at a student discount.

Mini Sewing Vacations are limited to 6 students per instructor.

Take Pant Fit & Sew again.

The study of fit is ongoing. As fashion changes, there are new fit challenges. You will have two full days to tissue-fit and fabric-fit any pant patterns you desire. Bring questions you want answered, and plan to spend time watching others being fit—there is much to learn in that process!

And again, and again...

Continue to refine and MASTER your fitting and sewing skills under our expert guidance. If you teach fit, you will want to watch even more bodies being fitted and more alteration challenges tackled. You will truly achieve your masters in fit!

Suggested Resources

  • Straight or boot legged, below waist jeans have side front pockets with inside pocket, front fly zipper, back yoke, back pockets, waistline with button closure, belt carriers and narrow hem. The guidesheet includes fit tips and sewing jeans details. See Marta fit and sew jeans and follow along with her on our DVD Jeans For Real People. An expanded jeans chapter is in our latest book Pants For Real People and includes a sewing order that you'll love.
  • This is the second and improved version of the NO SIDE-SEAM pant! We got such rave reviews from using this in our Craftsy "Fitting Fashion Knits" class (click the link to get 25% off!) that once the pattern got discontinued we had to do it again! this time we have a short version as well. The unique thing about this pant is it has no side seam, so fitting and altering is a little different. As always, personalized instructions, written by us, the designers, for this specific design are in the guide sheet! This is a great pant for a knit or a woven! Can be made with a center back zipper or an elastic waistband.
