Janet Dapson has mastered fitting and sewing jeans, and you will, too, when you take this 5-Day Jeans That Fit workshop.
Learn how to achieve the look and fit you want, beginning by using the most flattering jeans pattern for your body. You will be able to try on two styles of jeans and choose the pattern that is closest to the fit and look that you want. We will decide on alterations based on what we see in the try-on jeans and/or by tissue-fitting. If you want tight fitting jeans and have a difficult-to-fit body type, we highly recommend taking the 4-day Pant Fit and Sew workshop first. That will save time so you can fit jeans more quickly and move on to sewing jeans in this workshop.
See jeans in many fabrics and styles, bootcut to boyfriend to skinny, and learn about fabric selection, preshrinking and notions needed. Whether your figure type is full, petite, or curvy, we will focus on fitting YOUR body.
Tissue fit. Fabric fit. Sew your jeans!
Janet will demonstrate sewing all the jeans pockets, traditional jeans fly zipper, threads and techniques for topstitching, waistbands, belt carriers, button, buttonholes, and rivets. Learn to effectively shorten a metal zipper and use an industrial press to perfectly set rivets and tack buttons. We’ll provide a jeans pattern. Pati Palmer, McCall’s Fit Expert, has been designing jeans patterns for McCall’s since the 1980s.
Depending on your skill level and sewing speed you may be able to start a second pair of jeans. There is a difference in fit using stretch and non-stretch denim, so you may want to try both. It is helpful to take the 4-day Pant Fit and Sew Workshop first, but anyone with strong intermediate sewing skills can sew great jeans.
For your convenience, we are offering a kit for sale that includes a pattern, the preshrunk yardage of a denim of our choice and thread, zipper and hardware you will need to sew jeans. See the “Bring List” for ordering information.
Quote from workshop graduate Deb Wilkinson:
I can confidently say that I will most likely avoid the hassles and frustrations of ever trying on another pair of ready-made jeans. After taking this workshop, I feel confident that I have the skill set to sew my own jeans. No more discouraging fittings; I can sew stylish and comfortable jeans that allow my body to look attractive.
Quote from workshop graduate Zeta Fonseca:
This was an amazing, educational, and motivating class. I took away knowledge and confidence to make my own jeans that fit better than RTW and, in my opinion, look better than RTW. I love, love, love my new jeans. They are more comfortable and look better than any other pain of jeans that I own.
I lost my fear of topstitching in a contrasting color, thanks to Helen. I learned professional techniques for topstitching, placing rivets, button placement, constructing the fly, pocket placement and all the techniques that go into making and fitting a pair of jeans. Fabulous class!
