Learn to Fit and Sew Pants
In this 4-day workshop you will learn to sew pants that fit. The Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method of pattern altering is internationally known for its success. We start off with a presentation that walks you through all the pant fit basics and covers fabrics and notions too. You will tissue-fit and alter your pattern, cut from fabric, insert zipper, and sew crotch seams, pin fit and learn to fit-as-you-sew for the very best results. Master a non-roll waistband using the PP Perfect Waistband Interfacing or use elastic if you prefer. The reference book is Pants for Real People by Pati Palmer and Marta Alto. It is in its second updated edition.
You can also change up this basic pant in numerous ways and make it your lower body roadmap. For your next pant you can choose to add details such as trouser pockets and a fly front zipper or make a no-side seam pant.
The workshop includes the Palmer/Pletsch learn to fit pattern and lunches.
STAY ANOTHER DAY
PANT FIT TEACHER TRAINING/FITTING PRACTICE — $195.00
This session will be held from 9:00am to 5:00pm the day after the workshop. Lunch will be provided.
Whether or not you aspire to teach, an additional day of pant fitting practice will boost your confidence. Why not? You are already here! You will fit each other with the instructor only jumping in to help when necessary. This is a very different experience from focusing only on yourself. You will learn how to see what alterations are needed. We want you to think for yourself and be empowered before you go home. Join us if you can!
You will receive scripted slide programs which, if not planning to teach, you will learn from by reading. For those wanting to teach, you will also receive camera-ready handouts for your classes, a variety of slide presentations in PowerPoint (which allows you to rearrange slides for any length presentation), class format ideas, sample promotional flyers and marketing materials. The value of the slides alone is well over $1,000.
This session also allows you to order the Palmer/Pletsch basic fit patterns at a reduced price for use in your classes. This session also allows you to apply to become a Palmer/Pletsch CSI.
NOTE: Teacher Training can only be taken if you are also registered for this workshop.
This workshop is held at Sew-Op + Maker Space in Vancouver, WA, across the Columbia River from Portland.

Take pant fit again.
On your first return visit to the pant workshop you can fit and sew for FOUR straight days. You might want to try our latest no-gap vertical welt pocket. We’ve developed great instructions. It adds time, so we don’t recommend it for your first pant workshop. If you want to learn to fit and sew jeans, we suggest our Jeans That Fit 5-day workshops in Portland, and/or get Marta Alto’s Jeans for Real People DVD or streaming video.
And again, and again…
Each time you return to Pant, you’ll build on your fitting and sewing skills, and new challenges in details and/or design will be added. You will love sewing with the experts as they guide you to fitting and sewing beautiful pants. If you teach pant fit, you will see even more body shapes and improve your skill in fitting others. You’ll become a master in pants!
